My name is Mary Abigail Aparicio-Castrejón. I am a writer and graphic designer. Currently, I am the Communication and Development Specialist at SonBridge Community Center. I graduated from Walla Walla University with degrees in both English and Graphic Design. Consequently, I have been spending most of my time in College Place, Washington. I also live part-time in Olympia, Spangle (both in Washington state), and Honolulu, (not in Washington).
A few things about me: I love to read. I love to journal. I love to pair unlikely things and make great things out of them. Spanish is my first language. I am conversational in Egyptian Arabic and know bits and phrases in about 3 other languages that I will one day master.
As a writer, I like to think my style follows in the footsteps of Alice Oswald, Mary Ruefle, Sandra Cisneros, and Victor Villaseñor. Writing has been a way to connect to my culture. It makes me examine the environment I live in. It’s my way of processing what has happened to me and finding the wisdom and good in the everyday.
As a designer, I like to connect images with words in simple, but powerful ways. I strive to pare down all my designs to their simple elements but still achieve beautiful visual compositions. I also work towards designing consciously, thinking about how my designs will be produced and how the process could be easy on the client and their needs as well as the environment and its needs.
If you have questions about myself and my work that I have left unanswered please feel free to contact me, check out my resume, or head over to my project gallery or writing archive.
